Building expertise through training and education
Our acute care nephrology team supports high-quality care across Children’s Health by sharing our expertise. We help our colleagues build skills and strengthen decision-making in acute kidney care. Through hands-on education, we help care teams spot kidney injury sooner and use advanced therapies safely and effectively.
ICU-focused training and support: The team works directly with nurses and providers across all ICU settings. We deliver hands-on education and daily support for children receiving renal replacement therapy.
Resource dashboards: Online portals provide easy access to protocols, education materials and other resources. We've set up one each for bedside nurses and prescribing providers involved in acute kidney care.
Simulation-based learning: We developed a simulation program that provides hands-on training using real-life patient scenarios. This annual training allows nurses and providers to practice complex therapies in addition to classroom learning.
Research that drives better acute kidney care
Our team takes part in national and international research focused on improving care for critically ill children with kidney and liver failure. As a major pediatric center advancing these therapies, our team helps shape best practices that benefit children at Children’s Health and around the world.
Registry participation: The team contributes to major multicenter research collaboratives, including WE-ROCK, AWAKEN and ICONIIC, helping define best practices in pediatric acute care nephrology.
Publications and presentations: Doctors, nurse coordinators and advanced practice providers regularly publish research findings and present innovations that improve care for children everywhere.
